My friend asked me to draw Robin as I see him, instead of sticking with the "Murakanime" style that the Teen Titans show used. This isn't exactly it, but it's closer than I usually get! 
He's older, taller, and doesn't demand so much use of hair gel; getting closer to the Nightwing days. I tried to give him a few of the scars he's earned over the years without making him look like a walking practice dummy, as well as a fresher bruise against his shoulder where he probably recently took a blow or fall. One thing that hasn't changed is his inability to get a decent night's sleep. Robin's brain seems to kick into overdrive at night, especially when things aren't settled around the tower... which they often aren't.

Many, many, many thanks to Sigur Rós for their beautiful song "Ára Bátur", which I listened to literally hundreds of times while I was drawing. No, I'm not kidding. Hundreds. The song is in Icelandic, and it wasn't until I was in the middle of drawing this that I decided to go look up the translation. It was so worth it... and it solidified my idea that in this picture, Robin is waiting for a very long-overdue Raven to return home. I ship them SO HARD! My favorite verse of the translation:

Artistically, I learned SO much trying to draw this. I don't even know where to begin! Lighting, shading, anatomy... I don't think I've used so many photo references in my life, and it was such a great study. I tried really hard to draw the water and clouds myself, but that paled miserably to what I knew I wanted... until I found the wonderful brushes of Scully7491! They are miraculous.
